What is the driveshaft?

The drive shaft or prop shaft transmits the driving force of the engine onto the driven wheels of a vehicle. The drive is constructed between the drive shaft. The latter is adapted to the shock absorbers and the turning angle of the wheels.

The cv joint boots are rubber car parts that protect the drive shafts against dust and dirt. This is important to avoid damage to the cv joints.

How long lasts a drive shaft?

Drive or prop shafts generally last 62 000 to 93 000 miles. Depending on the intensity with which the car is used, your driving style and the type of road most used the drive shafts wear more quickly or more slowly.

When to replace drive shaft?

If a drive shaft needs replacing, it generally starts making noise when cornering, accelerating or slowing down using the engine. In addition, grease can leak out if the cv boots are cracked or have perished completely. As a result, the cv joint is no longer well protected and starts being noisy.
