What is the ignition or preheating system?

The ignition or preheating system of a combustion engine including the one in your car is very complex. It consists of several ignition parts each having a very specific role to play.

Petrol engines have an ignition system with spark plugs whereas diesel engines have a preheating system with glow plugs. Whatever the type of your engine, plugs are essential for the starting of the engine.

Obviously there are other car parts that are equally important in the ignition or preheating process, including the ignition coils, or the HT leads for example.
