Radiator/Fan

What is the radiator?

Today almost all vehicles are equipped with a combustion engine. This type of engine generates a lot of heat during the combustion process. To reduce the temperature in the engine, the radiator cools with a coolant.

Apart from the radiator, several other car parts assist the cooling process:

- The radiator fan, which is located close to the radiator and avoids overheating of the engine
- The electro motor driving the fan
- The thermostat

The radiator valve ensures the entire cooling system is constantly pressurized. This valve is therefore considered the starting point of the cooling system. The coolant is transported through the engine via a complicated system of pipes and hoses. The car part responsible for moving the coolant around the engine is the water pump.

The coolant needs to be replaced about every two to three years. Over time it loses effectiveness and will cool not as well. When replacing your coolant, please bear in mind to only open the radiator valve when the engine is cold. As the coolant is pressurized and expanded when the engine is hot, it can easily spray out.
