What are brake shoes?
Brake shoes are the car parts containing the lining in the drum brakes. In general, vehicles only have
drum brakes at the rear axle. The reason for that is that
drum brakes are more effective than
disc brakes as a parking brake.
When braking, the
brake cylinder, consisting of two pistons with
brake fluid presses the lining in the
brake shoe against the inside of the drum thereby creating the friction needed to have the vehicle come to a full stop.
