When Andre Citroën established Andre Citroën&Cie in 1905 he was just 27 years old. Inspired by Henry Ford, he would go on to create the first mass-production car company outside of the USA. In 1922 a Citroën was driven from Algeria to Kenya, crossing the Sahara desert in the process, and then down to the southern tip of the continent. The next year Citroën would be the first car to be driven across Australia (30,000 miles), from Perth to the west coast. Going from strength to strength and setting records in its wake, the following year Citroën would complete its longest journey, driving from Beirut to Beijing in just over a year.

Citroën’s feats are matched only by their technological innovations. Revolutionary Citroën parts include the “floating power” engine that virtually eliminated vibrations. They were also one of the first companies to use a wind tunnel in the design process, enabling them to create vehicles unmatched by competitors.
