What are cv boots for?

Cv boots are car parts which protect the cv joints or universal joints of the drive shaft from dirt and dust. When dirt clogs up the cv joints the drive shaft can easily get damaged.

The cv joint boots need to be replaced when it cracks or perishes. The cv joints are greased with a special grease to ensure smooth transmission of power. Dirt and dust can cause damage which can eventually lead to having to replace the entire drive shaft.
