The ignition coil is a sealed unit that produces a high-voltage electrical pulse in order to create an ignition spark. It contains two separate coils of wire, one inside the other. Using mutual induction, the electro-magnetic charge can be transferred from the external coil to the inner coil, making it possible to convert 12v of electricity from the car battery to the 10,000v required to create a spark. Both coils are contained in oil to help prevent overheating.

   Next you will need to use a small screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the ignition coil in place. These are normally 7 and 8mm. Make sure you place them on a tray to keep them together. 3. Insert the new ignition coil

   You will then need to place the new ignition coil into position, and secure it using the nuts and bolts. Often there is a resistor that is placed on one of the bolts.

4. Reconnect the battery

   Finally, reconnect the negative and positive terminal. It’s important to make sure that they are connected in the same pattern as before. There are usually numbers or marks indicating which wire connects to which to base.
