The Mini Story

The Mini story begins in 1959 when the first production version of the car featuring Austin and Morris Mini parts, marketed under the Austin and Morris brands, hit British streets to much acclaim. The Mini remained under these brand names until 1969 when it became a marque in its own right. However, the transverse engine front-wheel drive, which freed up 80% of the cars floor plan for passengers and luggage, remained a defining feature throughout countless iterations of the Mini.

The Mark I Mini was produced between 1959 and 1967 and was followed by the Mark II between 1967 and 1970. The Mark III and IV ran from 1969 all the way up until 2000, however, later models were only produced as special editions and in limited numbers. In 2001, the new owners of the Mini marque released the redesigned and reimagined Mini under the BMW brand. The new Mini became an instant success, retaining some of the original Mini’s styling whilst introducing modern technology and safety measures. Since 2001 all Mini models have fallen into different variants that include the One (entry level), Cooper & Cooper S (sports models) and the John Cooper Works (high-end) models.
