The rear brakes of a car are either drum brakes or disc brakes with brake pads like the front axle. In general, the heavier and more powerful vehicles tend to have brake discs at the rear as well. The reason for that is that drum brakes would not be sufficient to bring a heavy vehicle driving at speed quickly to a full stop. Brake discs and pads are therefore used instead.
