What is the
slave cylinder?
The clutch slave cylinder is located directly behind the clutch pedal after the clutch
master cylinder. The slave cylinder receives the piston of the master cylinder. Both are put in motion by pressurized brake fluid. Part of the brake fluid is led to the clutch system where it is used for disengaging car clutches.
The clutch slave cylinder pushes onto the pressure plates fingers which in turn press the
clutch release bearing.
At Mister-Auto.co.uk, we recommend you replace the clutch slave and master cylinder at the same time as their wear will be very similar. A clutch slave cylinder will need to be changed when it no longer fits well to the master cylinder. This will cause leakage of the
brake fluid. You will notice immediately if this is the case as the clutch pedal becomes lame and too easy to press whilst it becoming rather difficult to change gears.
